Shani Shingnapur is a village in Nevasa taluka of Ahilyanagar district, some 35 km from Ahilyanagar city, and it is known across India for an open-air shrine to Shani, the deity identified with the planet Saturn. The idol is a self-manifested black stone about five and a half feet tall, standing on a raised platform with no roof above it. Local belief holds that Shani guards the place, which is why houses here traditionally have no doors. Worship is simple and quick. Devotees offer oil to the stone, and a container above the shrine keeps a steady stream of oil running over the idol.
Tuljapur is a hill town in Dharashiv district, formerly Osmanabad, about 45 km north-east of Solapur and set at around 648 metres in the Balaghat range. It grew around the temple of Tulja Bhavani, a form of the goddess Durga, built in the twelfth century by Maradadeva, a Mahamandaleshwara of the Kadamba dynasty. The goddess was the family deity of the Bhosale clan, to which Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged. The temple stands on Yamunachala hill near the Mandakini river and the Bori dam, and it is counted as one of the full Shakti Peethas among the three and a half in Maharashtra.
